CONT'D
Sun, Mon & Tues were so bad we took kids to Houlton for a treat. Sandi & Curtis & Kids came Thursday PM and brot back good weather. Dave made great progress overcoming fear of the water and Kids played continuously. Kelly R & Chris M joined us in the middle of the night and allowed them to stay since we beat them senseless in cards. K & M also came for the last weekend. Good week overall and nice to get to know Chris a little bit.
Brent, Edie, Heidi & David

7/31-8/5 Arriving Sat @ 1:30 - Leaving Sun @ noon
Wonderful time of rest (w/ B & E & H & D and Chris & K on Sat - Sun) w mom & Dad Wed - Thr and much along time Sun - Wed/Thr - Fri... Try it, you'll like it!
Went to Easton Tuesday for a gold lesson w/ Barry, shopping & food. O yeah, Scott, P & C were down for a few hours Monday.
Weather was off & on, but good enough to enjoy the hammock, the canoe, the warm water & doing nothin'.
As always, food & family were great. Thanks dad & mom for making this place possible. A real retreat.
Kim & Marilyn

7/28-8/1
Chris and I arrived at midnight waking Grampy and confusing Edie (about who was in the fridge that late at night). We enjoyed the hammock, but it gave me motion sickness. The trick is not to focus on the hammock, but far away. The "Ice Cream Bar" in Danforth has OK ice cream, but very good pizza. I missed my sister, but it was nice having Chris around. I whooped him in tri-ominoes and we got whooped in spades & cribbage. The pump is in. We're going to paint it black & white because it sounds like a cow. All in all it was a good time. See you next year - when I'll be married!!

7/23 - 8/1
Brent, Edie, Heidi & David
We arrived w/ Scott, Penny & folk still here. The fridge was full. We helped Paul & Jenn move and Dave, Christie & Andrew made their first appearance. When our visitors/guests left so did the great weather.

They came, they went but forgot to sign the book so we will leave a space for them.

7/23 - 7/24/99 Paul & Jean Cook and Dave, Christie & Andrew Cook
B & Edie came 7/22 to help P&J pack the Ryder truck to head to Asbury Seminary in Kentucky. D&C also came to help P&J and investigate the camp. Cousin Andrew joined into the fun immediately. A sunny Sat AM was enjoyed by all. D still used to Texas temps and wimped out of water play. Andrew said he will be back. We'll miss P&J in Houlton area.

Page 22

7/2-7/5 - Brent & Edie, Heidi & David were here. The weather was decent. The kids enjoyed the water - very warm. Chad & Nathan sank the paddle boat. (At least we hope they did.) Fireworks in Houlton were great. Our stay was too short. Be back in a few weeks.

7-1 to 7-5-99 Scott, Penny, Nathan, Casey & Caleb
Nice days at the lake with family. Put up hammock, put in dock & had to build a bridge, rearranged upstairs & bedroom with a couch. Very humid and hot especially last night with lots of time in the lake. Great time and too much food!

7/2 to 7/9 Keith, Esther, Chad, Kendra
Had our annual family reunion at the camp. Kendra came down on Monday. Chad went to Mass with Brent & Edie to visit Dave & Mel on Monday. Went to Beulah for conference. Kendra & Crystal Smith came Tuesday evening & stayed until Friday P.M. Nice week. Good weather. Restful.

It is always nice to spend time with all of you. The camp is great for being able to really get caught up on all of our happenings without any major distractions of life.
Your hospitality to us is always greatly appreciated and I hope someday we can do the same for you. Sorry for the hours of lost sleep, but I guess it couldn't be helped. Thanks for everything.

Great R&R week w/ Mom & Dad joining from Sunday to Thurs. Tattersalls added lots of xcitement for last 24 hours & Donairs (?) for Thurs lunch. Good weather bu unusually cool breezes for swimming. Water still up & fine temp. Little painting and very little work as Dad forgot drill to install pump. Leave Sat as a busy schedule tomorrow w/ friends & relatives in Boston. Badminton, Fish, Trivia Adventure, swimming, "PIT" & more enjoyed by all. Dave & H loved "construction" done at last lot. Wish I could do another week. BLR

Page 19

7/2-5/98 Great weekend. Nathan came after work & Casey after Soccer camp. Caleb is thrilled to be swimming. Cousins go an operation paddleboat which is not totally successful. (? Can't figure out the first few words.) Penny painted picnic table. Rained all day Sunday so we decided to leave early afternoon.
Scott, Penny, Nathan, Casey, & Caleb

7/12-7/18
I had fun swimming with casey, mom, Dad, and papa. I also had fun riding my bike.
Caleb

7/12-18/98
Beautiful hot weather. No rain! Casey celebrated B-Day with shopping trip in Fredericton with Marji. Scott finished work on 13th. We went back on Tues & Wed. for First Pitch games. Didn't do much except burn brush pile. Big rains have raised lake level and we did lots of swimming especially Caleb. Vaughn & Katrina visited Wed. and cooks arrived on Thursday. Great week!

7-5-98
Marilyn & i w/o K&A. After 3 beautiful days we R inside w/ rain falling. We leave in a few hours. Enjoyed t family sights & sounds and total "laid back" atmosphere - big time relaxation. As usual, a full house and too much food.

7-5-98
Brent, Edit, Heidi & David enjoyed a wonderful weekend. We arrived late Thursday and are leaving today (Sunday) as it is raining. Better to travel in the rain, than lose a beautiful day in the car. The kids were in the lake all day Fri. & Sat. and it was beautiful. New wheels on the dock made for an easy launch. Fireworks for most on 4th but Kim, Marilyn, David & I enjoyed bonfire & smores/popcorn. Saw new timbers under camp for first time - looks great. Hooked up drain under sink - HOORAY!

We did all & normal things...swam, canoe, table games, eat too much, read, draw, write, pray & relax...The peace is great. We saw no moose or deer - & good news is - we didn't hit any either.
Today (Wed) is cool & gray so we are mostly inside. We head south tomorrow morning with a full August and fall in front of us.

Brent, Edie, H & D's annual trip during Riverside week. Keith, Esther & guests provided much entertainment & great weather. Monday brought Mom, Dad, rain & cool weather. Two families of ducks around. Scott & Penny visited twice so Heidi was :-)! Dad spent Tues PM, Wed early AM using a can - two filled! Riverside Wed PM and Thurs the Tattersalls arrived for an overnight. The Kids played great. Heidi loved 1 1/2 yr old Alex. Adam & heidi were "armor" w/ lasers to fend off the ducks. The weekend brought lots of neighbors to the camps. Water cooler than most years so swam little. One picking of raspberries provided a good pie. Gravel delivered to parking area (back) and front lawn. Needs raking, etc... Cool nights for sleeping. Still worth coming for the relaxation.
Brent - E, H & D

8/11 - 8/14/97
Kelly, Amber & Nilda w/ Kim - trying to survive w/o Marilyn. Spent Sunday in Easton for church & a cookout - excellant time. Drove down & got everything set up for a good nights sleep.
Beautiful day Mon followed by a much needed 5-6 hour rain.
Tue was great w/ Mom & day (think he meant dad), Nathan, Casey & Caleb joining us.

7/15 - 7/19
Came to camp from Hersey Track in Brewer on Casey's B-Day. Hot, beautiful weather. Refrigerator won't work, gas grill has no gas, no lighter fluid for charcoal, and oven won't light. Otherwise everything is great. Saw a moose on a canoe ride and lots of ducks. Grammie Cook broke the bed.
Scott, Penny, Casey & Caleb (Nathan at Riverside)

7/19-7/27
Keith Esther Chad & Derrick come to camp for a week. Kendra & Blenda come for the week-end. Chad got fish hook caught in his wrist so had to go to Houlton hospital. Great weather.

THE FOURTH of JULY at East Grant Lake

7-5-97 You don't want to know!

7-6-97
Marji Carton was here, saw a naked guy, but other than that had a great time !!

7-6-97 Keith, Esther, David, Mel, Kendra and Chad came to the Lake for the Fourth of July. We canoed, swam, and rented a small motor boat which we took to Sandy Beach. We all had a nice time.
Dave

7/6/97
Chad & I took the raft out in the middle of the lake, after that we went to Sandy Beach & swam around for a few hours, when it came time to leave, we got about 100 yrds or so from shore & our boat stalled. While trying to figure out what was wrong with the fuel line - this man that was on shore w/ his girlfriend thought that he would entertain us for a while and walked around the beach naked. When he left instead of helping us like any normal person would - he babbled some nonsense to us and left us there. We floated about out on the lake for an hour 1/2 until Keith came out to help us. Besides that we all had a nice 4th of July weekend.

Father and I came to camp on a Saturday to jack up the South side of the camp. We also cut down a couple trees and took the wharf out of the water. A beautiful day, around 70 degrees.

Lorena, Carolyn & Leanna Sullivan came to the lake with Penny & Caleb while Scott, Lary, Casey & Sarah were climbing Mt. Katahdin.

Page 12

(Continued from last post)
Nathan and Grampie had no luck. Water was warm. The water was high and dock was under the water. Caleb got the nerve to take off his life jacket and after awhile he learned how to swim. Casey got a great tan. (oh ya.) And now were off to the "Big" city.
Scott, Penny, Nathan, Caleb & Me. (Casey)

8-11
A beautiful day @ the lake. But what day isn't when you're at the lake? Had time to read & relax - gota sunburn - but will tan in a couple of days. Thanks for letting me come!
Gaie D. (?)

Scott, Penny and family along with Clarence & I come for Labor Day week-end. We all went up to Houlton Sunday for S.S. and church. The LaPoints were there. Great weather but grey skies on Mon. morning.
Rena

(Continued from previous entry)
Heidi has come full circle from being scared of the water to jumping off the end of the dock frontwards, backwards, etc... She loved having Caleb here to entertain (him & her). The gas grill is a great addition - Thanks Dad. The raspberries were great even though we were earlier this year. (TWO PIES! in margin) They must like cool rainy days. Pine tree looks great. I took a couple small trees down next to it to assure good space & development. No trip to Rideouts as it was closed Mon & Tues night. Donair & Riverside & ice cream were had on Wed. Sarah Sullivan joined us coming back to visit Casey. Hope next year is drier and only a little warmer. See ya when you come South.

Laura Griffin wuz hear in "96."

8/4 - 8/10
It's been a beautiful week! Grandpie and Grammie Cook visited Monday-Thursday. Monday I (Casey) caught two fish but had to throw them both back, oh well.

Page 10

Down 3 times - Esther Clarence + I down for the day to clean on Mon. Back down for over the 4th and Clarence and I come again on the 24th staying until the 31st. Scott & family here also Brent & family. Had great weather from Sunday on. Vaughn Valerie & Katrina down on Monday for the afternoon.

7/27 - 8/2/96
Was it wet or what? Rain on the weekend gave way to great days on Monday -> Wed. Thursday the (picture of rain) fell again. Friday cool & gray so we go home to a home of company (LICKS) and to see off Sam & Sharon. The dock is literally covered w/ water as the lake is as high as I can remember for August. Gravel put in this spring makes driveway great. Insurance check from the hole in the roof, fixed by Keith, Dad, et al, will allow some more gravel in front to fill holes and level. David enjoys the camp but the water from a distance. Loves hitting the baseball and throwing frisbee.

Organizational thought

Hi again,
After starting this, I think it may make more sense to have one post per page in the book, instead of one post per entry. It'll probably be a bit easier to organize, and you'll have entries from people who stayed during the same time right there. So I'm going to try this with some of the older posts and see what happens. For posts that go onto more than one page, I'll either call it out in the post itself or just stop and pick it up again in the next page's entry. And I think there are some entries that are REALLY long and go for multiple pages. When that's the case I'll just title them as such.

Let me know what you think!

-Chris

The whole "gang" was down as usual for the fourth. Some of us went to Houlton to see Fireworks. It was pretty much a miserable week. Cold + rainy. Today was the first nice one. Of course, the day we're leaving! Brent + Edie + Heidi + David just left today also. The water was absolutely freezing but me + my sis (Kelly) managed to earn ourselves 2 bucks each by jumping in last night. Oh yeah, I saw my first moose w/ Kendra and Casey this week!
(Can you tell my parents are cheap? $2!!)
(We're going to buy puppets from Burger King.)

Third & last week at camp. Nathan & Casey at Riverside. Brent & Edie & kids here for the week. M & D came down twice. Penny took course in Houlton all week. Very hot on Tuesday, raining on Friday. Great meal at Rideouts on Wed evening. Left on Saturday to attend Riverside. Caleb had a great time with Heidi.
Scott, Penny, & Caleb

8/20 - 8/26
Our first time here at this beautiful camp - we had a wonderful time doing family activities, not answering the telephone, and not flipping through the TV Guide. The activities this week features fishing, swimming, canoeing, eating fire-roasted corn, knocking on the outhouse door, and "moose-hunting". We never saw a moose, but we did hear 3 or 4 moose calling. We had three visits this week - from an unidentified four-hoofed animal in the dark, a family of ducks, oh and of course the Richardson's all the way from Easton, ME. We had a great time - thank for your kind hospitality!

7/23 - 7/29/95
Our second week of living at camp. Lots of company! Gail & Carolyn visit through Wednesday. Greg, Harriet, Ryan visit Tues. & Wed. Showers on Wed. but still very warm. Long canoe ride and lots of fun. Ryan kept us laughing. On Friday Nathan & I went whitewater rafting. We got up at 4 and returned at 9 - long day! Larry and Lorna came on Thursday & left Sarah for rest of week. Brent & Edie arrived Friday night and Mom & Dad early on Sat. morning for breakfast. Off to church & Riverside Sunday.
Scott, Penny & Kids

7/20 - 8/4/95
R&R week @ camp for Brent, Edie, Heidi & David. Good weather first 4-5 days as Tathersalls (?) joined us on Sat & Sunday - Scott, Penny, N,C, & Caleb various days and a feed (?) @ Rideouts w/ Mom & Dad too. A very few chores done and a fruitless trip to two closed dumps on Wed & Thurs. Friday - cold & rainy sent us home to Mass w/ hopes of better weather and a return Labor Day. David took a spill off the dock while feeding the ducks (one of many feedings) and Heidi made GREAT progress in water as she was jumping off the end of the dock w/ life jacket & swim in w/ no help. Riverside Tuesday night this year.

We made our first visit to camp. We arrived in time for lunch and spent the afternoon swimming. We had B-Bcue chicken for supper - Scott didn't even burn it. The evening was finished with a huge bonfire & Smores. We work up to clouds & haze but after a huge breakfast went for a canoe ride (3 kids played cards). We returned just before it poured & thundered with lightning! We decided to snack & play Skipbo. Greg & Casey won twice! Aftera swim - Greg & kids & Scott - we packed to leave! We had a great time - Thanks for inviting us!!

Keith, Esther,Kendra, Chad, + part-time Kert were here for yearly restbit. Relaxing time. The weather cooperated. Lots of games of Pit, Solitare, Cribbage. Chad caught a 9 in fish which had to be returned. Kendra and Chad caught a BIG ONE which broke the line and got away. Excitement of the week was the Maran's camp burning down. We were startled from a lazy lunch with the explosion from the gas tank. 'Til next year.
Esther Richardson

7/9 - 7/16
Our first week of living at the camp as we need to move out of our rented home. Unfortunately, Scott must work! Great weather, we saw a moose feeding in marsh area while canoeing Sunday night and again on Monday night. Casey practicing for Hersey track!

Yesterday Casey and I went swimming. It was fun. Then we went for a canoue ride. We saw 2 moose and a duck and its babies. We also saw 3 loons.
Today Casey and I went running at 9:30. We went about 1 mile. It didn't seem it though. Then we went swimming for a while and Casey was putting on a canoue demenstration. (Not)
Later on we made up a pie outside. And Casey taught me how to not make a blueberry pie.

Kelly and Amber out of sheer boredom started a red and white walkway to the outhouse. Mom and Dad had a fun time - mostly reading the day away. Softball was fun - I managed to get a tiny tan for once in my life. The highlight of mine and Kelly's vacation was making our bathingsuits fart. We also had fun getting drenched by my father because we started to sing the Barney song. Well, c-ya next year!

Camp Memories - now online!

While at the camp last weekend I noticed that a new guest book was being used because the old one was full. I also noticed that people always looked through both books at least occasionally. At that point I wondered why we couldn't put the old book online as a blog? I asked around and most folks thought it would be a good idea, so here it is. I'll try and keep adding posts on a semi-regular basis, with the dates as the title. And make sure you add your two cents, too - let us know what else you remember or what that inside joke means.

I've only got the 'old' book, of course. And I'll do my best at translating but I can't guarantee accuracy if your handwriting resembles Sanskrit more than English. I'll make notes where I can't read stuff or anything else interesting.

Happy reading and reminiscing!
